Personal Injury
Brief
Coley & Tilley appointed Encore Communications to manage media relations around a personal injury case. The personal injury team had secured a record payout for one of its clients following a catastrophic motor accident and wanted to raise the profile of the team’s expertise while protecting the interests of their client.
Solution
Following briefings with the legal team, Encore developed a press release about the case for regional, national and trade media. We also discussed the case with the client to develop an understanding of the challenges they faced following the accident, any potential issues the conclusion of the case may raise and, most importantly, what their wishes were regarding publicity.
The press release was distributed to target media, under embargo, in advance of the ruling and briefing notes were prepared for the client to help them handle likely questions. A statement was also prepared for the legal team to present outside court, in case of ‘doorstep’ reporters. A hotel room was also secured for media interviews, to ensure privacy and comfort for the client after what was likely to be an emotional and draining day.
Results
The ruling received significant regional and national media coverage, becoming the lead story on ITV Wales’ news programme, with their correspondent travelling to Birmingham to cover the story. The Coley & Tilley team also gave several interviews to regional radio stations and newspapers. Most importantly, the coverage was entirely positive and supportive of the family involved in the case.
