Sigma Components acquires Rolls-Royce’s pipe business

Sigma Components, which forms Avingtrans PLC’s aerospace division, has agreed to acquire Rolls-Royce’s internal pipe manufacturing businesses in Nuneaton, UK and Xi’an, China for around £3.5m.

 

Mark Johnson, founder of Sigma Components and managing director of Avingtrans’ Aerospace Division, said: “We’re delighted with the acquisition, which strengthens our position on several key programmes including Trent XWB, as well as providing an exciting platform for further growth across our wider product range.

 

“Sigma has developed a strong relationship with Rolls-Royce over the last few years, supplying components for various engine programmes. This acquisition is a natural extension of that relationship and we’re looking forward to working with the teams in Nuneaton and Xi’an to deliver against our ambitious growth plans.

 

“As well as strengthening our UK manufacturing footprint, the Chinese facility complements our existing facilities in Chengdu, further enhancing our offering to global aerospace OEM’s in this key growth region.

 

“Sigma will use a combination of our UK and China capabilities to offer improved commercial terms to Rolls-Royce as the XWB program grows rapidly.  This acquisition grows our Aerospace sales significantly, as Sigma continues to strengthen its position in core markets of pipes, ducts and fabrications.”

Rolls-Royce’s internal pipe manufacturing business employs 132 people at its Nuneaton facility at Hemdale Business Park, with an additional 110 personnel working at its Xi’an site. Operations will continue at both sites following the completion of the deal.
